The Legacy and Growth of Iota Phi Theta's Ohio Valley Region

A Journey of Brotherhood and Expansion Since 1996

The Ohio Valley Region of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. was established in 1996, driven by the vision of brothers Darren Sanford, Jay Dorn, Karl Price, and Joe Roberts. They sought to create a dedicated region for Ohio, Kentucky, and Michigan. Starting with 10 chapters, the region rapidly expanded under the leadership of its first Regional Polaris, Brother Karl Price, and his successors.

From 1996 to 1999, Brother Price’s administration grew the region to 15 chapters and laid the foundation for further expansion into Tennessee. His leadership was followed by Brother Darren Sanford, who achieved a remarkable 40% growth in just two years. He introduced significant initiatives, including the iconic “Brown Polo Shirts” for regional meetings and a centralized intake website.

Brother Don Holloman, who took over in 2001, further expanded the region by 27% and established key practices like statewide meetings and regional training programs. His administration’s efforts culminated in the successful hosting of the 33rd International Conclave Convention in Columbus, OH, in 2005.

Under Brother Jay Dorn’s leadership from 2005, the region saw a 30% growth and the establishment of several new chapters in Tennessee and Kentucky. His administration introduced regional crossing packets and enhanced the mandatory brown polo shirts policy, fostering a strong sense of unity and brotherhood.

In 2009, Brother Leon Coleman assumed the role of Regional Polaris, achieving a 25% growth and earning the Ohio Valley Region the “Region of The Year” award at the 2011 Conclave. His successor, Brother Gene Williams, continued this legacy of growth and leadership, bringing the region to over 50 chapters and colonies.

Today, the Ohio Valley Region remains a pillar of Brotherhood and Loyalty, embodying the principles and vision of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.
